What to do when He/She Leaves? — 757 Comments

  1. I think one should sit down and revisit oneself instead of crying over split milk.Work on your weaknesses and enhance your strengths.

  2. Hello Al, I hope you will remember me.
After 50 days of silent treatment (while I did what you suggested with regards communicating), my partner of 6 years sent me this:
“I am not ready to talk. I recognize now that I can not be in a relationship with you. We have both tried so hard for a long time but I cannot focus energy on our relationship any longer.”
I feel the urge to respond that it is all bullshit, that she is not telling me the whole truth of what is going on for her.
The only reason I have not responded to this email is because I know I am hurt and angry and really bitter and not responding at this point is counter-intuitive.

  3. Ok…so he left. Has a new life and girl friend. That I have accepted. What are some pointers to move past the deep pain of a marriage of 16 years-hopes and dreams gone? He's never coming back…divorce is final. Yet…the devastation of being left behind for “the other woman” remains. I have moved thru other relationships…but do not know how to accept what happened. It's been 2 years for Pete's sake! Yet I still feel sad at times…hummm…what to do??

  4. Al,
I started reading the book “getting the love you want” by Harville Hendrix, i can say now most of your papers make more sense, i can sometimes recognise the exact moment in my childhood which can cause erratic behaviour, as for my relationship with my ex, well is a no go at the moment but i hope one day this will work out, in a sense i think that i have made some progress, well mentally i feel i am in a better place, calm but aware of my surroundings, Merry Xmas to u and evryone who comes to this site…

  5. Concepts in Imago, about picking the “right” partner, are awesome, I've tested them a couple of thousand times and they work.
Hang in there and learn as hard as you can.
